Cécile Bouvet Auditory-motor entrainment: Behavioral and cerebral dynamics

This seminar will be an opportunity to present myself to the EuroMov laboratory. I will provide an overview of my academic and research background through the results of two of my Master’s Internships, and an introduction to my PhD project. Master 2 Semester 3, Dynamique Du Langage lab Lyon, with Alice Roy and Veronique Boulenger: Touched by words: How tactile language can affect somatosensory perception. Theories of embodied language suggest that word meaning understanding relies on the same sensory and motor brain mechanisms that underlie real perceptions and actions. In the present study, we examined the interactions between word processing and one sensory property that has only been scarcely investigated so far: tactile sensation. We addressed whether verbs that denote tactile sensation (e.g. to touch) can affect tactile perception. Influence of high spatial abilities on neural processing of deductive reasoning in children. Recent research has proposed new insights into the neural bases of deductive reasoning. Using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), studies have found in typical children that categorical and relational types of arguments both involve verbal representations, but that relational arguments are preferentially processed by spatial representations. In this study, we used fMRI to determine whether the reliance on these two representations for these two types of arguments differ in a group of children with high spatial ability compared to a typically developing group. PhD project, EuroMov and MARCS Institute (Sydney), under the supervision of Benoît Bardy and Manuel Varlet: Auditory-motor entrainment: Behavioural and cerebral dynamics. The goal of my research project will be to further understand the fundamental principles underlying spontaneous auditory-motor entrainment. We will investigate the behavioural and neural processes that underpin entrainment of human movements to external or environmental auditory rhythms. More specifically, the project will aim at understanding how biological and/or musical features of external rhythms can facilitate the occurrence and stability of auditory-motor entrainment.
